X12-SEGMENT-IDS
X12 segment IDs are X12 segment identifiers of 2-3 characters — codes (ISA, BEG, IT1, NM1, etc.) governed by ASC X12.22 and listed in the X12 Segment Dictionary.
Definition
Each X12 segment starts with a 2-3-character alphanumeric identifier. The Segment Dictionary lists the identifier, the long name and the element composition. Maintained by the ASC X12 Steering Committee.
Origin
Codified since the first X12 versions (1983). The nomenclature stays stable, only new segments are added at each version.
Use
In an 850: ISA (Interchange Control Header), GS (Functional Group Header), ST (Transaction Set Header), BEG (Beginning Segment for PO), N1 (Name), PO1 (Baseline Item), SE (Transaction Trailer), GE (Group Trailer), IEA (Interchange Trailer). Each ID is documented in the Segment Dictionary.
