QTY

Quantity. The EDIFACT segment that says how much: how much ordered, delivered, invoiced, in stock — always qualified.

Definition

The QTY segment, per UN/EDIFACT D.96A, is used "to specify a pertinent quantity". Its structure boils down to a single mandatory composite:

  1. 010 — C186 (QUANTITY DETAILS), mandatory:
  2. 6063 Quantity qualifier (an..3, M) — UNCL 6063: 21 ordered, 12 despatch quantity, 47 invoiced quantity, 59 backorder quantity, 113 minimum order quantity.
  3. 6060 Quantity (n..15, M) — the numerical value.
  4. 6411 Measure unit qualifier (an..3, C) — unit (UNCL 6411): PCE piece, KGM kilogram, LTR litre, CT carton.

Origin

QTY is one of the three most frequent line segments alongside LIN and PRI. Its current structure dates back to D.93A. ediverse.io archives D.96A at trsdqty.htm. The GS1 EANCOM subset typically mandates QTY+21 in ORDERS, QTY+12 in DESADV, QTY+47 in INVOIC.

Example in context

Ordered quantity of 24 pieces:

Reads as: qualifier 21 (Ordered quantity), value 24, unit PCE (piece).

  • LIN — segment that precedes QTY in each line loop.
  • MOA — for the amount matching the quantity.
  • Qualifier — the concept behind UNCL 6063.
  • ORDERS — primary message of use.
