Definition

The 997 responds to a functional group (GS/GE) in one-to-one correspondence. It is built from AK1 (group acknowledged), AK2 (transaction header), AK3/AK4 (segment/element errors), AK5 (transaction verdict) and AK9 (group verdict). It validates X12 syntax but not implementation-guide rules.

Defined as transaction set 997 in the ASC X12 standards, maintained by the Accredited Standards Committee X12.
