X12-997-AK1
X12 997 AK1 is the AK1 segment of the X12 997 (Functional Acknowledgement) Transaction Set that identifies the original Functional Group being acknowledged.
Definition
AK1 opens a 997. AK101 echoes the original group code (PO for 850, IN for 810, SH for 856, etc.), AK102 echoes the control number of the original GS. This lets the emitter match the acknowledgement to its dispatch.
Origin
Present since the first 997 version (1986). The 997 remains used throughout X12 except in HIPAA where the 999 (Implementation Acknowledgement) has replaced it since 2012.
Use
To acknowledge a PO-dispatch GS (code PO) with control number 1234: AK1*PO*1234. The AK2 loop per acknowledged Transaction Set follows.
