UNCL
UN/EDIFACT code value directory, part of the UNTDID Directories.
Definition
UNCL collects, per data element number (e.g. 1153, 3035, 4451, 7143), the set of admissible codes and their meanings. It is published and versioned with the UNTDID (United Nations Trade Data Interchange Directory) alongside the EDED (data elements), EDCD (composites) and EDSD (segments). A valid message may only carry, for a coded element, a value listed in the UNCL of its Directory version.
Origin
Maintained by UNECE (CEFACT) within the UN/EDIFACT Directory (e.g. D.96A, D.01B), part of the UNTDID. UNCL is one of the official parts of each Directory release.
Example in context
UNCL 4451 (Text subject code qualifier) — excerpt: AAI = "General information", ABN = "Delivery information". These codes populate the FTX segment.
