TAX-EDIFACT

The EDIFACT segment that carries taxes — VAT, duties, excises — with rate and base.

Definition

TAX is one of the most widely used UNTDID standard segments in invoices (INVOIC). It carries a qualifier (7=duty, VAT=value-added tax, ENV=environmental tax), a type (composite C241), a category (S=standard, Z=zero, E=exempt) and the calculated amount. It is referenced by MOA (Monetary Amount) for the tax total.

Origin

Defined by UN/CEFACT in the D.96A directory and stable since. Referenced by EN 16931 as the carrier of BT-118 (Tax category code) for European electronic invoicing.

Example in context

TAX+7+VAT+++:::20+S' — standard VAT tax at 20 %.

  • INVOIC — EDIFACT invoice message where TAX is central.
  • MOA — segment carrying the computed tax amount.
  • EN 16931 — European standard mapping BT-118 to TAX.
