SAC

Service, Promotion, Allowance, or Charge Information. The X12 cross-cutting segment that carries a qualified service, allowance or charge.

Definition

The SAC (Service, Promotion, Allowance, or Charge Information) segment declares a service, promotion, discount or charge in an X12 Transaction Set. It carries an Allowance or Charge Indicator (DE 248 — A allowance, C charge), a Service, Promotion, Allowance, or Charge Code (DE 1300), an amount and a rate. It plays the role ALC plays in EDIFACT.

Origin

SAC is defined by X12.6 in the cross-cutting segment list. It is used in every commercial Transaction Set (850, 810, 855, 856, 880) as well as in logistics flows and some 4xx (transport) sets.

Example in context

SAC*A*A050***-1000~
SAC*C*D240***500~

First instance: an allowance (A) qualified A050 of 1000 (with conventional negative sign). Second instance: a charge (C) qualified D240 (Freight) of 500.

  • ALC — EDIFACT counterpart, Allowance or Charge segment.
  • PO1 — X12 850 line segment, often complemented by SAC.
  • X12 — the North-American standard.
