Definition

In Transaction Set 850, PO1 is the first segment of a line loop (loop ID PO1). It carries number, quantity, unit, unit price, and up to five product identifiers in a single sequence:

  • PO101 — Assigned Identification (element 350): line number within the order.
  • PO102 — Quantity Ordered (element 330): ordered quantity.
  • PO103 — Unit or Basis for Measurement Code (element 355): EA Each, PC Piece, KG Kilogram, LB Pound, BX Box.
  • PO104 — Unit Price (element 212): unit price.
  • PO105 — Basis of Unit Price Code (element 639): PE Price per each, WE Per weight.
  • PO106-25 — Product/Service ID Qualifier & Product/Service ID pairs: up to ten pairs (element 235 + 234), e.g. UP UPC, EN EAN/UCC-13, VN Vendor's Item Number, BP Buyer's Part Number.

Origin

PO1 has been defined in X12 since version 002001 (1985) and is part of the Transaction Set 850 (Purchase Order), the most-implemented in the standard — massively adopted by North American retail, the automotive industry, healthcare and grocery distribution. Maintained by ASC X12.

Example in context

Reading: line 1, 24 units (EA), unit price 12.50 (PE = per each), UPC 789012345678, supplier reference SUPPLIER-REF-78. PID describes the product in free text.

  • BEG — the order header within which PO1 sits.
  • LIN — the EDIFACT equivalent.
  • GTIN — the typical EN identifier.
