Aligned Extension

PINT's extensibility mechanism, central to cross-border interoperability.

Definition

PINT distinguishes two extension types. An aligned extension enriches the base model with jurisdiction information modelled in a common way, so a receiver in another country can read it. A distinct extension carries a non-transposable local requirement. This split lets a foreign receiver still process at least the aligned data.

Origin

Concept defined in the Peppol International (PINT) model for Billing, published on docs.peppol.eu by OpenPeppol AISBL's Post Award Coordinating Community.

Example in context

Country X adds <cac:AdditionalDocumentReference> as an aligned extension for a regulatory reference, which a receiver in country Y can display without knowing the local rule.

  • PINT — the model defining these extensions.
  • CIUS — restriction by subsetting, distinct from extension by addition.
