ODETTE
European automotive standards body, root of the OFTP/ENGDAT/VDA ecosystem.
Definition
ODETTE is a grouping founded in 1984 by European vehicle manufacturers and suppliers. It publishes EDI recommendations (EDIFACT subsets), logistics standards (labels, packaging) and communication protocols, including the Odette File Transfer Protocol (OFTP). National bodies such as GALIA (France) and VDA (Germany) are members.
Origin
ODETTE International Ltd publishes its recommendations at odette.org; the resulting OFTP2 protocol is standardised by RFC 5024 (2007).
Example in context
A shipment between a German OEM and a French supplier runs on the ODETTE stack: a VDA/EDIFACT message carried over OFTP2, acknowledged by a signed EERP.
