Definition
Network News Transfer Protocol — RFC 3977 (October 2006). A handful of EDI experiments used NNTP as a fan-out bus in the 1990s; the practice has since been dropped.
Origin
NNTP descends from RFC 977 (1986). In the pre-web era, some academic EDI communities tried to use newsgroups to broadcast business event announcements; without non-repudiation, the experiment remained marginal.
Use
No modern EDI usage of NNTP: the history is cited in the academic literature (Adam et al., 1998) as illustration of the diversity of transports tried before convergence on AS2.
