MT tag 57a identifies the Account With Institution on an MT 103/202 — the bank holding the final beneficiary's account.
Definition
Tag 57a identifies the bank with which the beneficiary (59) holds its account. If Receiver and 57a are the same bank, 57a is omitted. On complex payments, 57a is mandatory for final routing.
Origin
Present since the earliest MT 103 specs. It is one of the seven bank tags (52a, 53a, 54a, 55a, 56a, 57a, 58a) of SWIFT's routing model.
Use
A payment to a Belgian supplier where Receiver is BNP Paribas Fortis Brussels and the account is held at BNP Paribas Fortis Antwerp: 57a=GEBABEBBANT (Antwerp BIC), 59=supplier.
