MT-TAG-33B
MT tag 33B is the SWIFT MT composite carrying the original instructed amount from the originator in their original currency, before any conversion.
Definition
On an MT 103, tag 33B accompanies 32A when there is a currency conversion. If the sender instructs USD 1,000 and the value is settled in EUR, 33B carries USD1000,00 and 32A carries EUR(...) with the converted amount. The rule is codified by SWIFT.
Origin
Present since early MT 103 versions, its obligation evolved: since SWIFT Standards MT 2009, 33B is required on all EEA payments for customer transparency.
Use
A French customer instructs a USD 1,000 payment to a US supplier. The bank emits an MT 103 with :33B:USD1000,00 (original amount) and :32A:260514USD1000,00 (settled). On EUR→USD conversion, 32A shows EUR with the converted amount and 33B keeps USD with 1000.
