MT-TAG-32A
MT tag 32A is the SWIFT MT composite carrying Value Date (6c), Currency (3c ISO 4217) and Settled Amount on an MT 1xx/2xx.
Definition
Tag 32A is the heart of an MT 103: without 32A there is no payment. Format: YYMMDD + 3-letter ISO 4217 + decimal amount (max 15 chars with one decimal comma). Variants 32B (no date) and 32D (alternate date) exist for specific contexts.
Origin
Introduced in the first wave of MT 1xx messages (1979). The composite format stays unchanged until the ISO 20022 migration (November 2025 for cross-border CBPR+).
Use
On a EUR 12,345.67 transfer dated 14 May 2026: :32A:260514EUR12345,67. Every bank in the chain validates consistency with tags 71F (charges) and 33B (instructed amount in original currency).
