MT-TAG-25
MT tag 25 identifies the originator's or correspondent's account on an MT 1xx/2xx. Variable format: account number or IBAN.
Definition
Tag 25 (or 25a on some messages) carries the debiting party's account on the instruction. Sub-option 25P adds the account-keeping bank's BIC. It is one of the most used tags to reconcile a bank movement on an MT 940 (Customer Statement Message).
Origin
Present since the inception of SWIFT MT. Its flexibility comes from multiple sub-options (25 with no qualifier, 25P with Party qualifier, etc.).
Use
On an MT 940 emitted daily by a bank to its corporate customer, tag 25 identifies the account: :25:FR7630003000300012345678901. The :61: and :86: lines below carry the movements.
