Definition
LOINC is a standard maintained by the Regenstrief Institute that codifies each medical observation with a 6-digit + check digit identifier (e.g. 718-7 = Hemoglobin, mass/volume, blood). Over 95,000 codes covering laboratory, radiology, document types, clinical surveys. Adopted in France by ASIP (ANS) for ROR and SI-DEP.
Origin
Initiated in 1994 by the Regenstrief Institute (Indianapolis) with NIH support. Distributed free of charge. Biannual updates (June / December).
