Origin

Published by ASC X12 — the Accredited Standards Committee chartered by ANSI in 1979. Segments are released version by version (004010, 005010, 006020) and refined by Implementation Guides or TR3 documents (HIPAA).

Use

The LIN segment is used in X12 832 Price/Sales Catalog and 856 Ship Notice/Manifest item lines. Like every X12 segment, it starts with its three-character identifier, followed by elements separated by the data element separator declared in the ISA.
