LEI Registration Status

Lifecycle state of an LEI registration.

Definition

An LEI must be re-certified at least once a year against third-party sources. Failing renewal within the allotted period, the status moves from ISSUED to LAPSED; a lapsed LEI remains technically valid but may be rejected for regulatory reporting. Other statuses exist (RETIRED, MERGED, etc.).

Origin

RegistrationStatus field defined in the GLEIF 'Level 1 Data: LEI-CDF' format; the annual renewal cadence is mandated by the LEI Regulatory Oversight Committee (ROC).

Example in context

<Registration><NextRenewalDate>2026-09-01</NextRenewalDate><RegistrationStatus>ISSUED</RegistrationStatus></Registration>

  • LEI — identifier carrying the status.
  • LOU — performs the annual re-certification.
