Just-In-Sequence. See official source.
Definition
JIS — Just-In-Sequence, automotive procurement mode in which components are delivered in the exact order of their assembly on the production line. Strict variant of JIT.
Origin
Documented by Odette in JIS / sequenced delivery standards. Standard practice among European automotive OEMs (Volkswagen, BMW, Renault, Stellantis) with sequenced EDIFACT DELJIT and DELFOR.
Use
For a Golf assembled in Wolfsburg, seats arrive in the exact order of requested colours/options 90 minutes before assembly; EDIFACT DELJIT messages transported in OFTP2 set the pace.
