HL7 v2 trigger event, Chapter 3 Patient Administration, MPI de-duplication.
Definition
A40 resolves a duplicate by merging the absorbed patient identifier into the surviving identifier; it carries an MRG (Merge Information) segment conveying the old identifier. Its abstract structure is ADT_A39 (surviving PID + absorbed MRG). It is the modern successor to A18 (Merge Patient Information); A41 performs the same operation at the account level.
