GS08
X12 GS08, the version/release code that drives transaction-set interpretation within a group.
Definition
GS08 (data element 480) states the published standard version under which every ST..SE document in the group is built, e.g. 005010 or 004010. An optional industry suffix points to an Implementation Convention, such as 004010VICS (retail) or 005010X222A1 (HIPAA 837P), telling the receiver which guideline to validate against. It pairs with GS01 (Functional Identifier Code) to select the right parser.
Origin
Defined as X12 data element 480 (Version / Release / Industry Identifier Code) in the GS functional-group header of the ANSI ASC X12.6 Application Control Structure, maintained by the Accredited Standards Committee X12. The HIPAA suffixes (e.g. X222A1) are registered with WPC.
