European Commission programme launched in 1984 that funded several EDI pilot projects in the 1980s-1990s, including TEDIS and CD/EDI.
Origin
Pillar of the EEC's industrial policy, ESPRIT (European Strategic Programme on Research in Information Technology) funded EDIFACT experimentation Europe-wide and paved the way for industrial adoption in the 1990s.
Use
ESPRIT structured cooperation between European industrial players around EDI; its deliverables fed the EBES and later CEN/ISSS MIGs.
