ENGDAT
ODETTE/VDA engineering-data exchange message.
Definition
ENGDAT structures the metadata of an engineering-data transfer: sender, recipient, purpose, status, and the file list with their 26-character logical file names. It separates the delivery note from the payload, which travels over OFTP, and is complemented by ENGPART for CAD-workstation partner master data.
Origin
Defined by VDA recommendation 4951 and the ODETTE standard (reference ODG11ED9206), maintained by ODETTE and the VDA.
Example in context
An ENGDAT V3 envelope bundles a CATIA file, its bill of materials and an EDIFACT note describing the purpose 'part revision', all sent over OFTP2.
