S001
EDIFACT composite of the UNB interchange header, defined by ISO 9735.
Definition
S001 is the first mandatory composite of the UNB. It combines element 0001 (Syntax identifier, e.g. UNOA, UNOB, UNOC) which names the character repertoire, and element 0002 (Syntax version number, e.g. 1, 2, 3 or 4) which sets the applied ISO 9735 version. The pair determines how the entire interchange must be decoded.
Origin
Defined in ISO 9735 (UN/EDIFACT — Application level syntax rules), maintained by ISO and UN/CEFACT; the UNB segment structure appears in ISO 9735-1.
Example in context
UNB+UNOC:3+SENDER+RECEIVER+250620:1200+REF0001'
Here S001 = UNOC:3 — UNOC (Latin-1) repertoire, syntax version 3.
