D.96A / D.01B
Numbering convention for UN/EDIFACT directories, carried by the S009 composite of the UNH segment.
Definition
An EDIFACT message declares which directory version it follows via two elements of the S009 (Message identifier) composite in the UNH segment: 0052 (Message version number, usually "D" for Draft directory) and 0054 (Message release number, e.g. "96A", "01B", "23A"). The release code combines the year with an A/B suffix marking the first or second publication of that year. D.96A therefore denotes the Draft directory of the first 1996 release.
Origin
The numbering scheme is published in the UN/EDIFACT Directories (UNTDID) by UN/CEFACT; elements 0052 and 0054 are defined in ISO 9735 (UNH segment structure).
Example in context
UNH+1+ORDERS:D:96A:UN'
S009 = ORDERS:D:96A:UN — type ORDERS, version D, release 96A, controlling agency UN.
