Cumulative Quantity (CUM)
Cumulative quantity concept, reconciling automotive EDI schedules.
Definition
In automotive schedules, requirements are often expressed as cumulative figures rather than discrete quantities: buyer and supplier compare their cumulative counters (ordered, shipped, received) at a common reference date to detect discrepancies and shortfalls. A quantity segment signals the last cumulative reset.
Origin
Cumulative-counter practice (Fortschrittszahlen) documented for official EDI formats such as UN/EDIFACT DELFOR; see the article "Cumulative quantities (logistics)" and automotive VDA/Odette guidelines.
Example in context
QTY+70:48000' (cumulative quantity shipped to date)
...compared against the buyer's received cumulative for reconciliation.
