EDIFACT-CONFORMANCE-B
EDIFACT conformance B is conformance Level B to the EDIFACT ISO 9735 syntax — accepts extended characters (UNOC = Latin-1) and certain optional extensions.
Definition
Level B widens the character set to UNOC (Latin-1) including European diacritics and special characters. It is the default level used by EANCOM 2002 and European retail.
Origin
Defined in ISO 9735 since 1996. The A → B transition became general in European EDI in the late 2000s.
Use
An EANCOM 2002 D.01B Level B INVOIC carries without transliteration: NAD+SU+5410738123450::9++Lieferant ÖlMühle GmbH+Mühlenstraße 1+München++80331+DE'. Without Level B, ÖlMühle would be OelMuehle.
