EANCOM

GS1's EDIFACT subset for retail and grocery.

Definition

EANCOM is an implementation of UN/EDIFACT: it selects a subset of segments, elements and code values from a given EDIFACT directory and mandates the use of GS1 keys (the GLN to identify parties in NAD, the GTIN in LIN). It covers the main retail order-to-cash messages: ORDERS, ORDRSP, DESADV, RECADV, INVOIC, SLSRPT, and others.

Origin

Published and maintained by GS1 under the name "EANCOM"; the per-message implementation guidelines are based on UN/EDIFACT directories from UN/CEFACT (UN ECE).

Example in context

An EANCOM NAD segment identifies the buyer by GLN: NAD+BY+5412345000013::9' (qualifier 9 = GS1 GLN scheme).

  • GLN — the party identifier used in NAD.
  • DESADV — the despatch message of the EANCOM subset.
