DISA
Governance body and historical secretariat of ASC X12.
Definition
DISA provided the administrative backbone of ASC X12 — committee management, balloting process, publication of versions/releases — without itself being the standards committee, which remains the ANSI-accredited ASC X12. Copyright on the underlying X12 standards was held by DISA. The operating function has since been carried by the X12 entity (x12.org), distinct from the ANSI-accredited committee proper.
Origin
ASC X12 is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI); DISA was its secretariat, founded in 1986, as documented by ANSI and by X12 (x12.org).
Example in context
A copyright notice on an X12 005010 implementation guide attributes rights in the underlying standard to DISA, the secretariat of ASC X12.
