DIRECT-DELIVERY
Direct delivery (DESADV). See Enterprise Integration Patterns.
Definition
Direct delivery — logistics flow in which the supplier delivers directly to the end customer without going through an intermediate warehouse. Modelled in EDIFACT by a specific DESADV.
Origin
Common practice in retail (drop-ship) and industry (JIT). Described in GS1 and Odette guides. Implies DESADVs with specific NADs (BY=ship-to ≠ DP=delivery party).
Use
For a direct delivery, the DESADV explicitly lists the end recipient in the NAD DP, distinct from the BY (buyer). The DESADV lets the recipient prepare reception without the goods going through the buyer.
