DGS

Dangerous Goods Information. The EDIFACT segment that describes regulated dangerous goods.

Definition

The DGS (Dangerous Goods Information) segment declares the regulatory classification of dangerous goods under the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods. It carries the applicable regulation code (UNCL 8273 — ADR, IMDG, IATA), the hazard class, the four-digit UN number, and the packing group.

Origin

DGS is defined by UN/CEFACT and aligned with the UN Model Regulations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods (Orange Book). It is mandatory in IFTMIN, IFTMBP and CUSDEC messages for affected shipments.

Example in context

DGS+IMD+3+1170:::FLAMMABLE+II'

Here, IMD states the IMDG (maritime) regulation, 3 is the hazard class (flammable liquids), 1170 is the UN number for ethanol, II qualifies the packing group.

  • EQD — segment identifying the transport equipment.
  • HAN — handling instructions segment.
  • UNTDID — the UN/CEFACT repository.
