DE 3055

UN/EDIFACT data element 3055, code list responsible agency.

Definition

3055 enables the use of codes outside UNCL by stating their source: for example 9 = GS1, 3 = IATA, 16 = US DUNS (Dun & Bradstreet), 92 = Assigned by buyer. It typically accompanies an identifier (3039 party, 7143 item…) inside a composite element, removing ambiguity when the same code could exist in several registries.

Origin

Defined in the EDED (UN/EDIFACT Data Element Directory) and listed in UNCL; maintained by UNECE (CEFACT) within the UNTDID.

Example in context

NAD+BY+5412345000013::9' — identifier 5412345000013 in composite C082 is qualified by 9, i.e. "GS1" (e.g. a GLN).

  • UNCL — UN/EDIFACT code directory.
  • DE 3035 — party function code qualifier.
