CNI

EDIFACT consignment-level segment in the IFTM transport messages.

Definition

The CNI (Consignment Information) segment marks the start of a consignment-level group: it carries a consignment sequence number and the consignment reference (often the house bill of lading / HBL number). Under each CNI come the parties, the goods items (GID), the documents and, in IFTSTA, the statuses (STS) that apply to that consignment.

Origin

Segment defined in the UN/EDIFACT directory of UNECE/CEFACT, used across the IFTM-series messages (IFTMIN, IFCSUM, IFTSTA, etc.)

Example in context

CNI+1+HBL2024-0091+8' (consignment no.1, house bill of lading reference HBL2024-0091)

  • IFCSUM — consolidation summary where each consignment is a CNI.
  • IFTSTA — status message structured per consignment via CNI.
