Definition
CLABE is 18 digits: 3 for the bank code, 3 for the plaza (locality), 11 for the account number, and 1 check digit derived by a modulo-10 weighted algorithm. It is the identifier required for SPEI interbank transfers in Mexico.
Origin
Defined by the Asociación de Bancos de México (ABM) together with Banco de México (Banxico), which publishes the bank code catalogue and operates the SPEI system.
