CCI

Characteristic / Class Identification. The EDIFACT segment that describes a characteristic or attribute class.

Definition

The CCI (Characteristic / Class Identification) segment identifies a technical, qualitative or regulatory characteristic of a product or service. It carries a class (UNCL 7059), a property identifier (UNCL 7037) and a measurement category. It is completed by CAV (Characteristic Value) which carries the associated value.

Origin

CCI is defined by UN/CEFACT and is widely used in PRICAT (catalogue) and IFTMIN (transport instruction) messages to describe characteristics of an item or shipment.

Example in context

CCI+5+COLOR:::ATR'
CAV+RED'

Here, 5 is the characteristic class (Product attribute), COLOR is the property identifier, ATR qualifies the type, and CAV+RED carries the actual value.

  • IMD — segment for textual product description.
  • PIA — segment for additional product identifiers.
  • UNTDID — the UN/CEFACT repository.
