CAGE Code

Entity identifier from the US federal procurement registry, complementary to DUNS.

Definition

The CAGE Code is a 5-position alphanumeric identifier assigned by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Commercial and Government Entity Program. It uniquely identifies one physical location of an entity within US defense contracts and catalogs; its NATO equivalent is the NCAGE.

Origin

Maintained by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA CAGE Program) under the US federal standard; NATO codes (NCAGE) fall under the AC/135 NATO Codification System.

Example in context

In a SAM.gov record an entity exposes both its UEI and its CAGE Code, e.g. CAGE = 1ABC2, tied to the physical address of the establishment.

  • UEI — the associated SAM entity identifier.
  • SAM — the registry that hosts the CAGE.
