BRAZIL-NFE
Brazil NF-e is the Nota Fiscal Eletrônica — the mandatory Brazilian electronic invoice since 2008. Digitally signed XML, validated by the issuing state SEFAZ, identified by a 44-digit Chave de Acesso.
Definition
NF-e (Nota Fiscal Eletrônica, model 55) is the B2B/B2C model. NFC-e (model 65) is the consumer-facing variant. Each NF-e carries a 44-digit Chave de Acesso (UF + YYMM + emitting CNPJ + model + series + number + emission type + cNF + cDV) and a protocolo de autorização returned by SEFAZ.
Origin
Established by CONFAZ Ajuste SINIEF 07/2005 and the Encat Manual de Orientação. Progressive rollout from 2008, generalised to all ICMS taxpayers.
Use
A Brazilian manufacturer emits an XAdES-signed NF-e XML to the SEFAZ-SP web service. SEFAZ validates schema, emitter CNPJ and tax status, then returns a protocolo (autorizado:100). The DANFE PDF is generated with the QR code and Chave de Acesso to accompany the goods.
