APE code (Activité Principale Exercée) — 4-digit + letter code assigned by INSEE according to NAF rev. 2 (Nomenclature d'Activités Française). Complement to SIREN/SIRET.
Origin
Managed by INSEE since 1973, APE codifies the main economic activity. NAF rev. 2 is aligned with the European NACE and comprises 732 sub-classes.
Use
In French e-invoicing and Chorus Pro, the APE code accompanies the SIREN in the issuer block; it enables statistical routing and tax compliance.
