ANSI-X12-6
ANSI X12.6 is the ANSI X12 substandard that specifies the Application Control Structure — syntactic validation rules and 997 error codes.
Definition
ANSI X12.6 codifies the language used by 997 / 999 to report syntactic errors. Error codes: Element Errors (E1=Mandatory data element missing), Segment Errors (S1=Unrecognized segment), TS Errors (T1=Mandatory segment missing). Each family has its repository.
Origin
Published by ANSI ASC X12; revised every cycle (4010, 5010, etc.). Reference for all X12 validation tooling.
Use
When an 850 arrives with an IT1 lacking quantity, the validator raises ANSI X12.6 / Element Error code 1 (Mandatory data element missing). The 997 returns AK5*E*1.
