IETF Areas + Working Groups structure : Applications Area (HTTPBIS HTTP, OAUTH OAuth, JOSE JSON cryptography, ACME ACME), General Area (consensus building), Internet Area (6MAN IPv6, DHC DHCP), Operations Area (DNSOP DNS Operations, SUIT Software Update IoT), Routing Area (BGP, IS-IS, BMP), Security Area (TLS, IPSECME, COSE, OAUTH, KITTEN), Transport Area (QUIC, TLSWG-LS, TSVWG). RFC process : Internet-Draft (-00, -01, ... last call) -> IESG Approval -> RFC publication via RFC Editor. ~50 RFCs publies/an. IETF meetings 3x/year (~1500-2000 participants).

IETF cree 1986 par US government ARPA contractors (Steve Crocker initial chair) ; rebranded organization parent IETF Administration LLC 2018 ; ~10000 active participants 2024.

Exemple en contexte

Le QUIC WG IETF a publie RFC 9000 QUIC Transport Protocol mai 2021 ; HTTP/3 (RFC 9114) basee sur QUIC publie juin 2022 ; deploye par Google, Cloudflare, Meta servant ~30% Web traffic en 2024.
